Exciting News: The ABOHN CM Credential Is Evolving!
The ABOHN Board of Directors is excited to share an important enhancement to our credentialing program, one that recognizes the growing impact and importance of Occupational Health Nursing (OHN) Case Management (CM)!
Over the past several years, OHN Case Management has continued to evolve into a highly specialized area of practice. While CM has always been an important part of our specialty, the experiences of the pandemic, the changing healthcare landscape, and findings from our most recent Practice Analysis Advisory Committee (PAAC) review have reinforced just how essential this work has become.
To better reflect the expertise of OHN professionals working in this area, we are pleased to announce that our current CM add-on credential will transition to a new Occupational Health Nurse Case Manager (OHNCM) standalone credential.

The new stand-alone OHNCM requirements are:
- A current RN License or an international equivalent.
- Rationale: Proof that the candidate is a registered nurse
- 3000 hours of occupational health nursing work experience (as a registered nurse) earned during the five years prior to the application with 65% (1950 hours) of work/tasks dedicated to case management. (See below for the alternative to work hours.)
- Rationale: ABOHN certifications reflect a nurse practicing at or above proficient level. OHN case management work experience is required for the nurse to maintain proficiency or above status.
